Friends,
With just under six months till the mayoral election in November we are now at the halfway point of campaigning. It's a good time for me to pause and say thank you to all who have signed up, volunteered, donated, or given encouragement. Thank you! This campaign is driven by neighborhood relationships and connections and I am so grateful for all of you.
Campaigning during a pandemic has its challenges, but we've kept working to build support for our vision. Read on for updates on my Five Friends program, our new merchandise store, and new campaign events. This includes a special online fundraiser with Alice Cain and Dr John King on Thursday, June 3rd. I'm honored to have these special guests join me for a conversation about education, equality and justice in our community.
I also want to let you know about a special festival the City is planning for July 4th - details are below. It will be an opportunity to celebrate what we've achieved over the past year and thank our frontline workers. I’m looking forward to seeing you there or at an upcoming campaign event soon!

We Salute You!
Bringing the love on July 4th
In my first run for Mayor, I often said I wanted to “bring the love back.” Over the past year all of you did just that and brought love to our community by supporting those in need and making sacrifices to keep us all safe. The recent easing of statewide capacity restrictions is a testament to your hard work and to the rapid uptake of vaccinations. Thank you!
-
Friday, July 2nd - arrival of tall ships
-
Saturday, July 3rd - street parade in which Governor Larry Hogan, County Executive Steuart Pittman and USNA Superintendant, Rear Adm Buck will join me in honoring doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, and those who kept our essential services going – City public works employees and our restaurant and retail workers.
-
Sunday July 4th - celebrations will conclude with evening fireworks at City Dock.
I’m so proud of the love and resilience shown by this community over the past year, and I’m looking forward to celebrating that with all of you. Vaccination remains the key to our new normal, so please encourage everyone you know to step up and get vaccinated. That way we can all come together to confidently and joyfully celebrate our Independence Day.

The Five Friends Factor
Every week for several months I've been making phone calls as part of my Five Friends program. It’s a form of ‘virtual door-knocking’ that’s allowed me to talk with hundreds of supporters. They each find five like-minded friends who also support my re-election and keep in touch to ensure everyone remembers to get to the polls and vote. By last February, I’d made 500 calls. I’ve now made 750 calls and will reach my goal of 1000 calls well before the primary in September.
As the Five Friends spread the word, our campaign grows and builds the strong base necessary to win a second term. I've also found it helpful to learn what people like about the last three years and hear suggestions on directions for the future. My thanks to everyone I’ve spoken with, and everyone who’s participating!
